ZHANG XIN (ST. ANNE'S COLLEGE, 2012 - 2013)
Dream is a very powerful word. Oxford is one of my dearest ones, which I believe is shared by many. However, to achieve it requires more than hard work and an offer letter from Oxford. The truth is, the admission offer did not feel real to me until I received the scholarship offer from the David and Jayne Paterson Educational Trust.
I was overwhelmed, to say the least, by the offer, and for a very long time, could not believe how lucky I am. To be honest, the excitement it brought is somehow even greater than the Oxford admission itself, as it is the last and the very essential push I need to actually achieve my dream. Without it, everything would be empty except for, perhaps, the regret lingers behind.
I have thought about how best I could express my gratitude towards the Trust, but the feelings are so profound that it is simply beyond words. It is not only an Oxford education that the Trust has helped me to secure, it is also my dream, and that for me, is priceless. I am sure the persons the Trust has helped through the past years felt the same way. Please allow me to convey a simple but most sincere thank you to the Trust for the amount of faith and generosity it has kindly placed on me and for which I will be forever in debt to. In the years to come, I shall, with hard work and my utmost determination, to live up to the expectation and to contribute to the mandate of the Trust.
Education is the foundation and the most important element for the development of an individual and of a nation as a whole. The generosity and the mandate of the David and Jayne Paterson Educational Trust is of utmost importance to China, and if I may say, even more so, for many students with an Oxford dream held dearest to their hearts.
Thank you, once again, for making this dream a reality.
