XIANG NAN (THE LONDON SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS AND POLITICAL SCIENCE   2019 - 2020)

Chen JIngZhi
China is experiencing a fundamental and multifarious transformation and the laws construction is an important part of it. We have already made some progress, such as the success in China’s environmental legislation field. However, there is still a lot of work to do. I wish I could make my contribution to this progress, so I decide to get further education in the UK after getting the LLB degree from CUPL. I think it is my dream destination, as it will give me an opportunity to explore some of the distinctive methods, practices and doctrines of the common law. The chance to be equipped intellectually for legal practice in one of the world’s best law schools spells deepest attraction.

I am honored to get the offer from Oxford, Cambridge and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) this year and I will go to LSE for further study. I was fortunate to have an internship in the International Finance Corporation (IFC, World Bank Group) in 2017. During the time in IFC, occasionally, I came across complicated case scenarios requiring understanding of interdisciplinary concepts and knowledge. I hence realized that as world economies developed and integrated rapidly, more and more cases would involve other aspects of life, like finance and economy, rendering solely mastering legal knowledge obsolete and insufficient to be a good lawyer. LSE is an ideal place for interdisciplinary study. Besides, it can provide me with a multicultural environment. Having an opportunity to study in such an environment and communicate with people from all over the world make me feel so excited.

Also, I feel so lucky to be awarded this scholarship by The David and Jayne Paterson Education Trust. Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Paterson’s selfless support, the financial burden of my family is hugely relieved. Bearing the desire to become a lawyer in mind, I will make the most of the year to study hard and expand my vision so that I can make my dream come true and help others in the future.
