WANG CHONGYAO (HERTFORD COLLEGE 2021 - 2022)

My career plan is to do research and teaching in academic institutions because making contributions to academia always be my goal. I believe Oxford is the best place to enhance my research and start my career in academia. Oxford law faculty is famous for its training in legal philosophy. I sincerely admire the achievements made by Prof Thomas Adams, Prof Ruth Chang, Prof Julie Dickson, Prof Leslie Green, Prof Nicolaos Stavropoulos, among others in the legal theory field. Besides, Chen Jingzhi and Sun Shasha, my senior classmates and friends, are pursuing their DPhil in law at Oxford after obtaining their MPhil degrees at Oxford. I wish I could be like them because it shows in them that the MPhil and DPhil program at Oxford positively influences student researching and creating abilities.
The MPhil program at Oxford would provide systematic and comprehensive training and benefit my future study through horizontal and methodological help. Hopefully, my study experience at Oxford will change my way of thinking and improve my analysis ability, moreover, deepened my understanding of essential topics of legal theory.
However, studying in the UK requires a considerable amount of financial support. The tuition and living expenses at Oxford University will be a massive expense for my family and me, and this scholarship has undoubtedly eased the financial burden on my family tremendously. When I received the email from the David and Jayne Paterson Educational Trust, I was flattered. I am really grateful to the Patterson Trust for their generosity. Mr and Mrs Paterson have set an example for my future. I will work hard on my research for jurisprudence as a way to express my sincere gratitude.
