LIANG YONGYAN, WINNIE (ORIEL COLLEGE, 2008 - 2011)

Liang Yong Yan
Graduated from China University of Political Science and Law, I am now pursuing my second bachelor degree in Oxford University. Thanks to the generous support from the Paterson family, I gained a golden opportunity to experience a brand-new life in the UK. Some people may think doing two bachelor degrees of law in both PRC and the UK seems to be time-consuming, and yet, I found it rewarding and time worthy. In addition to the solid academic background in both legal systems, these experiences are priceless treasure that has enriched my life. Living in a foreign country teaches me how to deal with loneliness and overcome difficulties independently. It also gives me plenty of time to reflect my life and to discover what I really want to do in the future. Besides, Oxford endeavors to keep its own tradition in every aspect, ranging from education methods to daily-life courtesy, which satisfies my strong curiosity about different culture and traditions worldwide.

For now it is my sixth year as a law student, I found my passion in the dynamic commercial world and its strong tie to law. While Hong Kong is a financial center naturally blended eastern culture with western spirits, its legal system stems from English Law but is also under increasing influence from Chinese legal system. I am inspired to be a commercial lawyer in Hong Kong after graduation.
