GUAN YU, RAINY (LINCOLN COLLEGE 2017-18)
One would never expect how big a difference he/she could make to their own life nor, to an even larger extent, would he/she know how much encouragement and joy a generous support could motivate.
The initial encouragement came from myself. At the very beginning of my application to UK graduate law schools, I was worried about my disadvantages that might be easily detected by those experienced admissions officers. I dared not even think about Oxford. However, I knew I love Oxford, not only for the exquisite traditional architecture and the best-maintained culture, but also for its unique and dedicated legal education. I want to be a successful lawyer with abundant theoretical knowledge as well as corresponding practical techniques, and then no doubt Oxford should be my first and sole choice. This strong motivation ignited my life and urged me to think harder and study harder, to plan my future and make my dream come true. When I finally got admitted in Oxford Law and the amazing Lincoln College, I knew that all my hard work had paid off. I should thank myself for not giving up at any tough stage.
It is always true that a genuine and kind support can easily make a difference when one has almost started his/her ambitious journey. Such support comes from the David and Jayne Paterson Educational Trust as the most important encouragement to me. I would never forget how kind and helpful Mr. Paterson was when I asked him questions, and how excited and encouraged I was when I heard the good news. The long journey of legal studies is not as easy and tempting as commonly considered, but as a scholar who has been endowed with such generosity, I feel strongly committed to this field and am all ready to take the upcoming ventures in Oxford and in my future life.
I believe that the true commitment and hard work would be the best thank to the Trust and I am already on the way!
