CHEN JINGZHI (ST. CROSS COLLEGE 2018 - 2019)

The spring 2018 is my lucky season when I received the offer from Oxford and also the generous support from the David and Jayne Paterson Educational Trust, which opened a new world for me.
I major in legal philosophy and Oxford has always been a dream school to me, not only for its gorgeous architecture and ancient history, but also for its world's best program in my field. I am fascinated by the pursuance of clarity and rigorousness in the tradition of analytical legal philosophy, to which Oxford has made a great contribution. Brilliant works within this tradition often make me excited and deeply absorbed in the fundamental and intriguing problems in legal practice. Therefore, with many questions about our human life and the urge to explore them, I decided to study legal philosophy and Oxford, which stands for the highest level in this field, has become somewhere to me.
However, making up my mind to accept the offer from Oxford is not that easy. The tuition fees and living expense in Oxford mean a large financial burden for my family. When I received the email from Oxford that I could get the scholarship from the Trust, I was extremely surprised and flattered. The generosity and kindness of Mr. and Mrs. Paterson greatly relieved my financial burden and also established a role model for me to follow in my future life.
Thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Paterson very much for giving me the opportunity to obtain a wonderful and fulfilled academic experience in the coming year. I will make use of the time spent in Oxford and commit myself to my field as a way to express my sincere gratitude.
