JI XIAODONG, WILLIAM (ORIEL COLLEGE, 2003 - 2006)
The only thing that is unchangeable is that nothing is unchangeable - this is what this year has proven, again - yes, I changed my job and am now working with our "big sister", Paloma, in the same law firm.
Time flies - not until I received the email from the Trust introducing our next scholar sponsored by the Trust did I realise that my "ranking" has rocketed from the bottom of the line up to a senior level. Seven years have passed by, but I can still remember the first day I arrived at Oriel - it was like a dream, a dream full of fate and luck, which led to crossing emotions of excitement, contentment, with a little bit lost and anxiety. Nothing exaggerated, without the generous help of the Trust, I would have never thought the journey of my life would have a stop at Oxford, a stop at the right place - until today I still believe it to be.
What came into my mind was a saying of Princess Elizabeth Bibesco: "Blessed are those who can give without remembering, and take without forgetting." Yes, if there is one thing that is truly unchangeable, for we Paterson Scholars, it will be our heartfelt gratitude to David & Jayne.
