Introduction
The David and Jayne Paterson Educational Trust is an educational
foundation which, in its discretion, awards scholarships to
students to enable them to attend educational establishments
in the United Kingdom. This prospectus relates specifically
to Scholarships which will be awarded to graduates of the China
University of Political Science and Law to study Law at Oriel
College, Oxford.

Eligibility
Applicants must be under 30 years of age at the date of entry
to Oriel College and must:

be graduates of the China University of Political Science
and Law ("CUPL"), |

have been accepted for entry to Oriel College; |
 |
be resident in the People's Republic of China; and |
 |
be in a satisfactory state of health. |

Tenure
The Scholarship is for a period of three years or such longer
period as the Trustees may decide and is tenable for an undergraduate
degree course in Law at Oriel College, Oxford. Currently,
the Trustees expect to award two scholarships each year.

Basis of Selection
In making awards, the Trustees will take into account not only
academic achievement but also:

Value of Scholarship
 |
The Scholarship covers the College fees and University
Tuition fees, which will be paid directly to Oriel College.
These fees are currently approximately £16,000
per annum. Other costs will be for the student's own account. |

In addition to the Scholarship, the Trust will pay for
a standard economy class airfare from the place of residence
to London or other approved destination at the beginning
of the Scholarship and for the return journey to the place
of residence on completion of the Scholarship period,
and |

In cases of financial hardship, the Trustees may, in
their absolute discretion, make arrangements by way of
supplemental awards, loans or such other means as they
may think fit to assist Scholars in meeting their essential
expenses. |

Method
of Application
Application forms and full details of the Scholarship are available
from the Nominating Committee, The David and Jayne Paterson

Applications must, in all instances, be addressed to The Trustees
of The David and Jayne Paterson Educational Trust and be submitted
by a date to be announced by the Trustees.
Applications must not be addressed to any individual Trustee.
Applications should be dealt with as follows:

Applications must be submitted through the Nominating
Committee and be supported by a testimonial signed by
the Chairman of the Nominating Committee recommending
the applicant for a Scholarship. This testimonial shall
also set out the applicant's academic record of examination
results and any other relevant information including remarks
which will assist the Trustees to satisfy themselves that
the special qualities set out above have been met. |
The Trustees reserve the right at their discretion to approach
any organisation, establishment or individual to check the
substance of all statements made by any applicant.
All applications are subject to screening by the Trustees
and only those deemed suitable will be eligible for further
consideration and interview. All decisions of the Trustees
are final and neither the Trustees nor any individual Trustee
will, under any circumstances, be required to explain to applicants
or their representatives why any application has been accepted
or declined.
Whilst the preliminary evaluation of each application will
be based on the details submitted by applicants in writing,
any final selection will require applicants to attend for
a personal interview and no Scholarship will be awarded without
such an interview.

Condition
The award of a Scholarship is conditional upon the candidate
being accepted for and taking up a place at Oriel College.
The award of a Scholarship will not be confirmed by the Trustees
until the candidate has been accepted by Oriel College.

Regulations Governing Scholarships
 |
Scholars must conduct themselves in a proper manner
throughout the periods for which the Scholarships are
awarded and must use their utmost endeavours to complete
their studies and achieve the best possible results in
any tests or examinations which are part of the course.

The Scholarships will only be awarded to students undertaking
legal studies. The Scholarships will be terminated in
the event that the Scholar does not continue with study
for a degree in Law. |

Scholars must at all times comply with the regulations
of Oriel College and of Oxford University. |
 |
Scholars shall not accept, without the consent of the
Trustees, any employment during their Scholarship periods
other than short-term employment during vacations. |
 |
Scholars shall not, without the consent of the Trustees,
be attached to the Embassy or other diplomatic or governmental
office in the United Kingdom or elsewhere during the tenure
of the Scholarships. |
 |
The Trustees reserve the right to terminate the Scholarship
at any time for reasons of unsatisfactory conduct, breaches
of Oriel College or of Oxford University regulations,
breaches of the regulations of the award, failure to make
satisfactory progress, illness, or conviction for any
criminal offence on the part of the Scholar. |

The Trustees reserve the right to terminate or amend
the terms of the Scholarship for any reasons which they
think fit without having to account therefor. |

Insurance
All insurance will be the responsibility and for the account
of the Scholar concerned, but it is recommended that Scholars
should consider accident, medical and personal effects insurance
and/or any other insurance which they may themselves consider
to be appropriate.

Definitions
The expressions used above shall have the following meanings:
| "Nominating Committee" |
means a committee consisting of
not less than 5 senior representatives of the CUPL. Changes
to the Nominating Committee may only be made with the
approval of the Trustees. |
| "Scholar(s)" |
means a candidate or candidates
chosen by the Trustees for the award of a Scholarship
or Scholarships |
| "Scholarship(s)" |
means a scholarship or scholarships
awarded to a Scholar or Scholars pursuant to a Deed of
Trust dated December 1998 and any amendments thereto |
| "The Trustees" |
means those persons nominated in
the Trust Deed, and their successors |
| "Trust Deed" |
means a Deed made in December 1998
between David Paterson and the Trustees establishing The
David and Jayne Paterson Educational Trust in Jersey.
