| Sir Alan Donald, KCMG,
LLD was born in Inverurie, Scotland on 5 May 1931. He was educated
at Aberdeen Grammar School and Fettes School in Edinburgh and at Trinity
Hall, Cambridge. Sir Alan served in the 2nd Regiment of the Royal
Horse Artillery before entering H.M. Diplomatic Service in 1954. He
served in Peking, France, Greece and Hong Kong before being made Ambassador
in Zaire in Indonesia and, finally, in China (1988-1991). Since retirement,
he has been a director of a number of companies connected with China
and Sourth East Asia. Sir Alan is married served with four sons. |
| Sir Ewen Fergusson, GCMG,
GCVO was born in Singapore on 28 October 1932 and was educated
at Geelong Grammar School in Australia, Rugby School in England and
Oriel College, Oxford. He served in the King's Royal Rifle Corps before
entering H.M. Diplomatic Service in 1956. He served in Addis Ababa,
New York and was British Ambassador in South Africa (1982-1984) and
in France (1987-1992). Prior to his retirement he was Chairman of
Coutts and Co. and of the Savoy Hotel Group. He is Chairman of Rugby
School Governing Body and a Trustee of the National Gallery. He is
also an Honorary Fellow of Oriel College. Ewen is married with one
son and two daughters. |
| Sir Thomas Arnold
was born in London on 25 January 1947. He was educated at Bedales,
Hampshire; Le Rosey, Geneva; and at Pembroke College, Oxford, where
he read Modern History. For many years he had interests in the theatre,
commercial radio and in publishing. He was elected to the House of
Commons in 1974 and served as the Conservative Member of Parliament
for Hazel Grove in Greater Manchester until his retirement in 1997.
From 1979 to 1982, he was Parliamentary Private Secretary in the Northern
Ireland Office and later in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. He
was appointed Vice Chairman of the Conservative Party in 1983 and
in 1994 he was elected Chairman of the House of Commons Treasury and
Civil Service Select Committee. Sir Thomas is now a consultant with
a number of private clients. |
| Michael Paterson
was born on 26 July 1948 in Peebles in Scotland and was educated at
Stonyhurst College in England. He read Chemistry at Oriel College,
Oxford - M.A.(Hons.) He then worked for Deloittes in London and is
a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and
Wales. Michael then worked for Jardine Matheson in Hong Kong and the
Philippines and subsequently for successful Malaysian businessman,
Ananda Krishnan, as Finance Director. He returned to London as a stock
broker in 1984 and was Marketing Director of Asia Equity after spells
with Phillips and Drew and Swiss Banking Corporation. Michael helped
found, and was Chairman of, the Oriental Restaurants Group which was
listed on the London Stock Exchange. The company was sold in late
2000 and Michael is now retired. Michael is married and has one son
and two daughters. |
